Sara Svoboda BSc. Honours Kinesiology

MSc. Sport & Exercise Psychology Candidate

Sara is a Canadian sport scholar pursuing a career in Sport Psychology.  Sara achieved her BSc. Honours Kinesiology degree from McMaster University, in Hamilton, Ontario Canada. In September, Sara embarked upon her postgraduate studies as a MSc. Sport and Exercise Psychology student, at Loughborough University, in the United Kingdom.

In addition to her studies, Sara is a current member of the Canadian National Senior Women’s Rugby team.  She has earned nine caps for her home nation and continues to pursue high level rugby in the Tyrrells Premier 15s league, as a member of the Loughborough Lightning Women’s Rugby Team.  As an elite-level athlete herself, Sara is passionate about the implementation of psychological skills training in high performance settings, the psychosocial processes underpinning return from injury, and the study of resilience.

Sara has an extensive background in coaching – working with a diverse range of athletes, including rugby, basketball, soccer and national-level hockey players.  Her affinity for coaching has developed into a passion to aid athletes and performers in championing the mental game.  Currently, Sara volunteers within the Loughborough Applied Psychology Service (LAPS), as a program assistant for the Loughborough Lightning Netball team.

Sara has recently explored the topic of psychological momentum in sports.  In her first blog post, Sara breaks down the performance phenomenon, to explain what psychological momentum is, how it impacts athletic performance, and how it can be controlled to facilitate success.  If you haven’t already, be sure to check out Sara’s post!
